RECYCLE: THE JOINT.

ABOUT INTERLOCK
"Interlock" is a sustainable joint system developed by Marian Leon-Patin, Ciria Aguayo, Ana Elisa Loynaz, and Maria de los Angeles Ventura. Utilizing recycled low-carbon steel hangers, the team crafted malleable joints capable of bearing substantial weight. By folding the material in a specific manner, they created frets that interlock to form a sturdy connection. The system expands on both the x and y axes, allowing for versatile applications. Despite challenges in handling the material, adherence to rules dictating growth in the x direction through linking and in the y direction through interlocking ensured the functionality of the final prototype. This innovative approach maximized the material's potential, resulting in a joint system with unexpected flexibility and strength.

PROCESS
The process of creating our joint system is based on the unfolding of the hangers into a straight wire and folding the material extracted in a determined way, seeking to create a base piece.
Steps to be taken: Eliminating the hook, straightening the hanger to obtain a metal stripe from which the joint will part, and creating frets all of equal size to interlace a fret with the other and join them. Therefore, two rules were created: Link & Hook.
