TOMMY BAHAMA FOR HER - FRAGRANCE PACKAGING
The Tommy Bahama fragrance “For Her” packaging project aimed to create a sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing design that could hold the bottle securely and protect it during shipping. The project was elaborated alongside Carla Lopez, and featured in the 2023 Bilbao Design Week as part of the University of Navarra’s exposition “Diseñamos”
The use of parametric kerfs and strategic solid areas reinforced the design and eliminated the need for inner protective packaging, reducing production costs and materials. The clutch design package was created with the intention of being portable and could be easily inserted into a beach tote during the day and taken out for evening events. The load-bearing testing involved placing the package right-side up and down to create a tight and non-sliding shipment, allowing 32 bottles to be held in a Correos box. The project taught valuable skills in concept development, mood board creation, die-cut design, prototyping, and swift problem-solving.

PROCESS
In the Tommy Bahama fragrance packaging project, we aimed to create a sustainable and functional packaging design that reflected the summery character of the fragrance. Our solution was a clutch-like package that could be easily carried around, providing both protection and portability. The use of parametric kerfs added an aesthetically pleasing and flexible design while also reinforcing weak points. The design also eliminated the need for inner protective packaging, reducing production costs and materials. As a designer, this project taught me valuable skills in concept development, mood board creation, die-cut design, prototyping, and load-bearing testing. I also gained experience thinking creatively with my hands and finding practical solutions for real-world problems. The project pushed me to consider sustainability and functionality in my design process, and I am proud to have created a design that not only looks great but also serves a practical purpose.
